Art That Responds to You
teamLab is a Tokyo-founded collective of programmers, engineers, mathematicians, animators and architects who create immersive environments using light, water, sound and technology.
Unlike traditional artworks designed to remain unchanged, the installations at teamLab Phenomena respond continuously to visitors. Butterflies scatter as you approach, floating forms shift at your touch and entire rooms transform as people move through them. No two visits unfold in exactly the same way.
Built Around the Art
Spanning 17,000 square metres, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is the collective’s largest permanent venue outside Japan. It is also the first building designed specifically around its concept of “Environmental Phenomena”, where the artwork is shaped by its surroundings.
Created by MZ Architects in collaboration with teamLab, the building was developed from the inside out, with its spaces designed around the installations rather than the art being fitted into an existing structure.
What’s Inside
The experience moves through more than 20 immersive environments, shifting between darkness and light, dry ground and shallow water.
Highlights include a levitating form that appears to heal and reshape itself, swirling brushstrokes of light that gather and scatter, and floating orbs that respond with colour and sound when touched. Some areas use real water underfoot, while others feature fog, strobe lighting and near-total darkness.
Plan Your Visit
Adult tickets start from AED 150, with tickets for children aged four to 12 starting from AED 50. Children under four enter free.
The museum is open daily from 10 P.M. to 8 P.M., with last admission at 7 p.m. Located in Saadiyat Cultural District, it can easily be combined with a visit to Louvre Abu Dhabi or Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.
