    Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi

A journey through 13.8 billion years

The ADGM District Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi
The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi tells the epic story of our universe from its earliest origins to life on Earth and the future we are shaping today. Set within Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum offers an immersive experience that blends science, discovery and wonder, framed through a distinctly Arabian lens.
Things You Won't Read on the Museum Walls

The Murchison Meteorite on display is 4.5 billion years old, older than Earth itself and contains amino acids not found anywhere on our planet. Stan the T. rex has bite marks on his neck, evidence of a real prehistoric fight. And the building itself? Designed to resemble ancient lava formations, with hanging gardens that make the exterior a living landscape.

Designed as both a visitor destination and a centre for research, it invites curiosity across generations while reinforcing Abu Dhabi's growing role in global scientific and cultural dialogue.

    What Makes It Stand Out

Arabia's Climate: The Evolving World (Cenozoic Era). The rise of mammals, evolution of surviving species, Earth's changing landforms, and a special focus on Abu Dhabi 7 million years ago.

    • A regional perspective: The story of life on Earth is explored with a special focus on the Arabian Peninsula, placing the UAE within the planet's broader natural history.
    • Unprecedented scale: The largest natural history museum in the Middle East, combining vast galleries with immersive, interactive environments.
    • Science in action: Beyond exhibitions, the museum houses working research facilities supporting studies in palaeontology, biodiversity and conservation.

    Fun Facts

    • The museum features two Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons displayed together in a dramatic prehistoric encounter - a world first.
    • One of them is Stan, a 67-million-year-old T. rex and one of the most complete specimens ever discovered.
    • Visitors are greeted by a herd of five massive sauropod dinosaurs in the atrium — the first display of its kind anywhere in the world.

    What's On Now

    Permanent Galleries

A comprehensive journey spanning 13.8 billion years, from the formation of the universe to Earth's evolving climates and ecosystems. Fossils, meteorites and immersive displays bring deep time to life in striking, accessible ways.

The Lost World of Abu Dhabi - A standout gallery that transports visitors back seven million years, when the region was a green, savannah-like landscape. Fossils include now-extinct species such as a giant four-tusked elephant, revealing a side of the Emirates few have ever imagined.

Living Research & Education - The museum supports ongoing scientific research and public programmes, with workshops and community initiatives designed to inspire future scientists, researchers and conservation leaders.

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi connects past, present and future, encouraging visitors to think critically about climate, sustainability and our responsibility to the planet. It is a place where knowledge meets wonder — and where understanding Earth's past helps shape a more thoughtful future.
