ADGM to sign MoU with CNDP-Morocco during inaugural data protection forum

    ADGM RA 28/01/2018

Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), is hosting its first annual Data Protection Forum today, January 28th, 2018. During the forum, ADGM will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP), Morocco.
The MoU between ADGM and CNDP will facilitate ongoing collaboration between the authorities, enabling information exchange on trends, best practices and latest developments in privacy and data protection regulation. The MoU signifies further progress by ADGM in executing its strategy of engagement on data protection not only with industry and government, but also with the international data protection regulatory community. The signing ceremony will be held during the first part of the forum.

Dhaher Bin Dhaher Al Mheiri, CEO of the ADGM Registration Authority said, "It is a great honour to hold ADGM's first annual Data Protection Forum. ADGM continuously strives to be world-class international financial centre and a strong data protection regime is a key component towards achieving that objective. The forum will be showcasing the developments we have made in the field and our outlook to implement further privacy measures for all stakeholders."

The Data Protection Forum will comprise an opening welcome address from the CEO of Registration Authority, Mr. Dhaher Bin Dhaher AlMheiri; a keynote speech from the Secretary General of the CNDP, Lahoussine Aniss, followed by the MoU signing. The second half of the forum will include Carolyn Robson, Group Data Privacy Manager of Etihad Aviation Group; Nick O'Connell, Partner at Al Tamimi & Co; and Tim Land from the ADGM Office of Data Protection. They will be delivering presentations that will cover topics ranging from the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR), to an overview of data protection developments in the GCC and in the ADGM. The forum coincides with International Data Protection Day.

In December 2017, ADGM established a dedicated office to oversee data protection compliance in the financial centre; ADGM also recently announced amendments to its data protection regime to strengthen its effectiveness and enhance consistency with international standards.
