The ADGM Sustainable Finance Agenda

In line with the UAE Vision 2021 and the Green Agenda, the ADGM Sustainable Finance Agenda was introduced in January 2019 comprised of these four pillars:

Integration of sustainability into the regulatory framework of ADGM

ADGM worked with 10 UAE financial regulators and exchanges to publish the Guiding Principles on Sustainable Finance in the UAE, a first-of-its-kind initiative based on the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development

Building cooperation with national and international stakeholders

In 2019, ADGM spearheaded the launch of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Declaration, which gathered important government agencies and corporate champions to collectively commit towards supporting the sustainable finance movement.

Fostering communication, knowledge and awareness

ADGM launched the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum, the first event in Abu Dhabi focused on the adoption of sustainable finance in the region, as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. ADGM Academy also launched the first certificate on Sustainable Finance.

Creating a sustainable finance ecosystem in ADGM

The ecosystem offers a diversity of institutions, products and services to deploy financing to scale up sustainable finance. Many ADGM members have introduced new initiatives, reinforcing their dedication to the objectives of sustainable finance. This has been highlighted in the State of Sustainable Finance Report. The report serves as a call to action to promote the ongoing implementation of sustainable best practices in Abu Dhabi, UAE and the wider region.

Sustainable finance

ADGM's thriving and sustainable finance hub supports capital formation, raising and deployment as well as the creation and issuance of products to achieve positive environmental, social and governance objectives.

Gender equality

ADGM established a gender equality initiative to strengthen gender balance and representation across all job functions and levels in the UAE workplace. The initiative is based on three programmes: leading by example, working collaboratively and championing effective change.
